Several studies have shown that predators tend to move towards areas disturbed by trawling (Hall et al., 1993; Kaiser and Spencer, 1994; Collins et al., 1999; Demestre et al., 2000) and that fauna discarded or damaged by the fishing gear is an important source of food for certain species that occupy different trophic levels and various positions in the water column such as crustaceans, birds and fishes (Varisco and Vinuesa, 2007; Marinao and Yorio, 2011; Funes et al., 2019). We pose two different scenarios.

A further source for such differences in aggregation of zoobenthos might also be present in food availability (Hall et al., 1993; Vetter, 1995). Nevertheless, there were still a higher total number of species present downstream (10) than upstream (8) of the wreck, although this may be due to one sampling point (Ap3) being located on an underwater rocky hill, with partly an individual species composition.

Spatially resolved vessel monitoring system or over-flight data have the potential to produce finer resolution maps of fishing effort leading to more general evaluations of the impact of variations in fishing intensity (Gerritsen et al., 2012; Hinz et al., 2009).
