The situation is the same for 11-deoxycortisol [24,45,46]. As a consequence, and based on the expression of HSD11B2 by the distal epithelium, CYP21A2 activity would be the only way to activate GR in these cells, but not MR because of circulating levels of aldosterone (Fig. 5).
