Abstract

Isoelectric focusing (IEF) in immobilized pH gradients (IPG), was first introducted in the biochemical field over six years ago. In spite of its thorough development2–5, we have the feeling that in fact IPGs are only just becoming widely known. Here we will highlight the principle of the technique and the recent developments which have improved the performance of this method.
