Abstract
IN 1923 azo dyes containing a cyanuric halide grouping were introduced by Ciba1. In recent years, the practical application of similar reactive compounds possessing a triazine chloride radical has been extended considerably2,3. Dyes of this type have the following type of structure: where ‘Dye —SO3H’ represents the sulphonated chromophor (azo, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine, etc.) and X stands for another chlorine atom or for an inactive radical. On the fibre, the halogen atom of the dye molecule reacts with the hydroxyl group of the cellulose molecule forming a covalent bond. Reactive dyes of the above type are marketed by Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., and by Ciba.
