Chemistry of Sodium Ethylmercurithiosalicylate

Abstract

SODIUM ethylmercurithiosalicylate (I) is a white crystalline solid, melting at about 230° C. and easily soluble in water and the lower alcohols, but insoluble in lipoid solvents. Its preparation was first reported by Kharasch in 19288, who used the following reaction (cf. also Waldo 8)
