Why measure astrophysical X-ray spectra?

Abstract

CRAIG and Brown1 advise caution against some of the limitations of X-ray astronomy, and emphasise the need to take theoretical considerations into account before planning expensive experiments. Their remarks must be taken seriously by those involved in space experiments, but their statements represent only one extreme viewpoint on this complex problem.
