Summary
The 3,3′,4,4′-tetrahydroxy-2,2′-bipyridyl-N-oxide has been synthesized by dealkylation of the corresponding tetramethyl derivative. The chemical properties of this compound are identical to those reported for the minor fungal toxin ofCortinarius orellanus, orellinine.
