Summary
During a thunderstorm in the area of Weissfluhjoch hail stones have been collected for crystallographic investigation. Thin sections cut out of several specimens and inspected in polarized light reveal in all cases but one a polycristalline structure of the hail stones. The normal pattern of the sections consists in a number of small crystals forming likely the centre of growth and in an adjacent or surrounding group of larger crystals.
