Summary
-
1.
Karyological observations chiefly in connection with meiotic chromosomes were made in seven species and varieties ofCrocus.
-
2.
The somatic chromosome numbers of threeCrocus species were found to be 6 inC. Suterianus, 8 inC. karduchorum and 16 inC. Cartwrightianus albus, respectively.
-
3.
Tetraploid form was found inC. karduchorum, mixoploid cells being sometimes observed.
-
4.
The haploid chromosome numbers were determined to be 3 inC. Suterianus, 4 inC. aerius, 6 inC. susianus minor, and 8 inC. Cartwrightianus albus, respectively.C. biflorus Barrii was hypodiploid having three bivalents and one univalent.C. Kittiwake was an autotriploid with five trivalents.
