Abstract

The influence of weld lines and changes in moulding section thickness on structure and mechnanical properties has been determined for short glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene structural foam prepared using a short-shot moulding procedure at two different melt injection times. Results are discussed in terms of the variability in skin to core thickness ratio, moulding density and fibre orientation obtained in these mouldings and subsequent effects on flexural stiffness and impact energy to failure.
