Summary
The recently introduced Connected-Moments Expansion (CMX) is compared to a variational Lanczos scheme for estimating ground-state energies of many-body systems. A systematic approach is given for three quantum-mechanical systems: harmonic oscillator, anharmonic oscillator and the Kondo model. A second-order analysis is given in terms of particular ratios of moments of the Hamiltonian.
