Abstract
A solution is obtained for the Bean critical-state model in an inclined magnetic field which leads to localization of the irreversible magnetic moment induced by the shielding currents. An experimental investigation of YBa2Cu3Oy single crystals and epitaxial films, and also plates of classical superconductors using vector magnetometry yields results fully consistent with the model calculations. The established geometric effects have an important influence on measurements of the angular dependence of the critical current and its anisotropy in a high-temperature superconductor.
