Summary
The metabolic disorder and the functional impairment of the kidney cause elevated serum sulphate levels in Addison's disease.Sturm andPothmann reported decreased serum sulphate levels in Addison's disease. In our patient this could not be observed because of functional renal insufficiency. Gluco- and mineralocorticoid medication caused a decrease in serum sulphate and enhanced urinary sulphate excretion. The increase in urinary sulphate excretion is due to the amelioration of renal function in the course of mineralocorticoid treatment and to the specific katabolic effect of glucocorticoids on sulphate metabolism demonstrated byMann.
