Summary
The Wenckebach type of conduction disturbbance occurs frequently under physiological as well as pathological conditions. It is not restricted to the AV node but can take place in any part of the conducting system, such as the sino-atrial region and the His-Purkinje system. It is also to be found in exit blocks of ectopic rhythms. The detailed knowledge of the Wenckebach phenomenon is essential for the interpretation of numerous complex cardiac arrhythmias.
