Summary
The presence of mycoplasmas in tissue cultures has created many problems for investigators employing cell cultures, especially with respect to the interpretation of the results. It was partly because of these problems encountered in mycoplasma-infected tissue cultures that increased attention was paid to this group of organisms and many unique interactions of these organisms with cell cultures, uncultured living cells and viruses were discovered, which have been reviewed in the present paper.
