Ky nailing of impending and pathological fractures of the proximal femur

Summary

Eight two patients underwent 86 Küntscher Ynailing for impending and pathological fractures of the proximal femur. All but five mobilised post-operatively, thus improving their quality of life. Eighteen patients died in hospital. Prophylactic nailing improved survival. Fifteen out of 86 nailings were followed by complications.

Résumé

Quatre-vingt-six clous de Küntscher en Y ont été mis en place chez 82 malades pour fracture, ou risque de fracture pathologique de l'extrémité supérieure du fémur. Tous, sauf cinq, ont pu être levés après l'opération, ce qui leur a permis de quitter l'hôpital, améliorant ainsi leur qualité de vie. Dix-huit malades sont décédés à l'hôpital. L'enclouage prophylactique augmente la durée de survie. Quinze de ces 86 opérations ont été suivies de complications.
