• 1. Eiweißfreie Kost führt bei hämatologisch reifen Wistarratten reproduzierbar zu einer Anämie.

• 2. Ausmaß der Anämie und Antwort der Blutbildung auf unterschiedliche Vorbehandlung spiegeln sich an den Produktionsstätten im Knochenmark wider, wie die vergleichende histologische Untersuchung von Sternalmarkschnitten zeigt. Daher sollte bei entsprechenden Versuchen das Verhalten des Knochenmarkes nicht nur an zytologischen Ausstrichpräparaten, sondern auch an Schnittpräparaten beobachtet und beurteilt werden.

• 1. A protein-free diet produces a reproducible anemia in hematologically adult Wistar-rats.

• 2. The severity of the anemia and the response of blood formation to various prior treatments are reflected at the sites of formation in the bone marrow. This is demonstrated by the comparative histological examination of sternal bone-marrow sections. For this reason the response of the bone marrow during such experiments should not only be observed and evaluated by cytological smears, but also by sections.
