Summary
The enzymic tissue dispersion method yields single mast cells from human adenoids. These cells are light- and electronmicroscopically intact. The mast cells react to the calcium-ionophor A 23187 and to anti-human-immunglobulin E or acetylcholine after passive sensitization with histamine release. After passive sensitization with serum of patients suffering from hay feaver the specific antigen induces a histamine release.
Isolated mast cells prove to be a simple system to diagnose allergies and to test antiallergic drugs in human material.
