Summary
Applying the Galerkin procedure to the Donnell basic equations, fairly accurate solutions are obtained for the postbuckling behavior of clamped circular cylindrical shells subjected to torsion. Through detailed calculations, main postbuckling characteristics, i.e., connections of the angle of twist, axial shortening and deflection with applied torque, are clarified for a wide range of shell geometrics. The results here obtained are ascertained to be in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results.
