Summary

500 individuals belonging to the caste groups of Brahmin, Khattri, Arora, and Jat were investigated for the phenotypes and gene frequencies of the erythrocyte enzymes phosphoglucomutase (locus 1), acid phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, adenylate kinase, and adenosine deaminase. No significant differences were found among the various groups with respect to these genetic markers.
