Summary
This paper describes experiments undertaken to determine the rate of absorption of45Ca from the intestinal tract of rats. The method ofScholer andCode as well asMoll andCode was used.
The rate of absorption during a 60-min-period was for45Ca fastest in the jejunum and decreased towards the aboral end of the intestinal tract. The amount absorbed was largest when a solution with low Ca-concentration was used. An increasing concentration of the cation in the testsolution was followed by a slower rate of absorption. The intestinal uptake followed the equation ofMichaelis Menton in all segments studied.
The influence of K+ ions upon the absorption of Ca++ ions is discussed.
