On the invariant turbulence measures

Summary

Two simple invariant quantities for characterizing turbulent flow fields are introduced. The first one, analogous to conventional Reynolds shear stress, represents a point-maximum value of correlation between two orthogonal velocity fluctuations. The second one is to characterize local turbulence anisotropy. The applicability of these measures is supposed especially by the description of coupling between the coherent structures and the incoherent turbulence. Consequently, the (coherent) turbulence production is discussed.
