Abstract

Both theoretical and experimental evidence is presented to demonstrate that doublet C previously observed in the 57Fe Mössbauer emission spectrum of [Co(phen)3] (ClO4)·2H2O is most unlikely to originate in a spin triplet ground state of iron(II). Rather dublets C and B are assigned to the intact [57Fe(phen)3] (ClO4)2 complex and to a complex involving one defect phen ligand, respectively.
