Abstract

We report the measurement of the absorption profile of the seventh harmonic of the C—H stretch in liquid benzene by a pulsed dye laser opto-acoustic technique. The absorption peaks at 18808 cm−1 (5316 A), with a peak absorption coefficient being 4.5 × 10−4] cm−1. The asymmetrical absorption profile has a full width at half maximum of 317 cm[su−1. The systematic trends of the series of harmonic absorption lineshapes in benzene, in the liquid, and in the vapor phase, are discussed.
