Abstract

Strongly-oscillating production of micron-sized particulates is observed in a vapor mixture of Cs (≈1 torr) and D2 (≈20 torr) when the mixture is excited by a focused 0.1 W cw laser beam at wavelength within ±0.03 Å from the 6010.49 Å Cs(6P12 → 8D3/2) transition. The oscillating period in the range observed (0.1 to 10 s) varies like [Cs]−2[D2]−1.
