Electron energy loss studies on V, Nb, Ta and VN, NbN and TaN

Abstract

We have carried out EELS studies on transition metals V, Nb, and Ta and on their nitrided samples, VN, NbN and TaN. The plasmon energies, energy for interband transitions, the ionization energies of the transition metals and their nitrided samples are compared. The shift in plasmon energies and atomic energy levels are discussed.
