Abstract

The pinning potential of an ellipsoidal inclusion in an YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) film, deposited on a substrate, in the presence of film stress, has been estimated. The stress fields at the tip of the inclusion are computed with the assumption that the YBCO film is elastically orthotropic. The volumetric interaction energy of a flux line situated at the tip of the ellipsoid is calculated numerically for various shapes of the ellipsoid using the change in the anisotropic compliance tensor ΔSij between the superconducting and the normal states for a c-oriented YBCO film.
