Abstract

The hyperfine-structure of the 14.4 keV-γ-transition in Fe57 was measured by the Mössbauer Effect in foils of ordered and disordered Ni3Fe and in Permalloy-films (81 % Ni, 19 % Fe) with and without uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. The magnetic field at the iron nucleus was determined from the separation of the hyperfine-lines. The broadening and the asymmetrical form of the measured lines can be explained by a spectrum of hyperfine fields resulting from statistical fluctuations in the microenvironments of the iron atoms. In the ordered Ni3Fe the broadening of the resonance lines was appreciably reduced.

No differences were found for the width and the form of the hyperfine-lines in Permalloy-films with and without uniaxial magnetic anisotropy; the number of directed iron-pairs in films with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy is shown to be smaller than 1020pairs/cm.3.
