On the condition for a super radiant phase transition in a spin-photon model of quantum optics

Abstract

The dependence of the system ground state energy on excitation number is examined using a variational method when a phonon interaction term is included. The zero temperature limit of a thermodynamic treatment of the modified Dicke model is recovered exactly.
