Abstract

Excitations of valence electrons in Auger transitions of atoms with a vacancy in internal shells, produced by internal conversion or K-capture processes, are studied theoretically. It is demonstrated that this effect is large and the excitation spectrum is very sensitive to recombination processes. A resonant behaviour of the excitation process as a function of temperature is predicted.
