Abstract

Films prepared at high deposition rate greater 200 nm/min by this process showed c-axis orientation and in-plane alignment. Jc values of the films prepared at deposition rates of 100 and 220 nm/min at zero applied field and 77K were 2.1×10⁵ and 5.4×10⁴ A/cm², respectively.

Initial growth mechanism of YBCO films in liquid phase epitaxy process
2000, Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications
The initial stage of growth for YBa₂Cu₃O_x (Y123) films on (100) MgO substrates by liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) was investigated. In the initial stage, Y123 seed films partially dissolved into BaO–CuO solution, and Y123 islands were epitaxially grown from the undissolved seed grains on an MgO substrate within 1 s. It was found by XRD analysis that the LPE films with grain orientation of fourfold symmetry on the surface of MgO substrate were grown from not only a fourfold symmetrical seed film but also an eightfold symmetrical one. This phenomenon cannot be fully explained by the coarsening mechanism due to the curvature difference. The difference in the interface energies between Y123 and MgO should be considered to understand the preferential dissolution and growth.
Properties of Nd<inf>1+x</inf>Ba<inf>2-x</inf>Cu<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7-δ</inf> films on YSZ and SrTiO<inf>3</inf> synthesized by RF flash plasma evaporation

We have measured the properties of Nd_1+xBa_2−xCu₃O_7-δ (NBCO) thin films on YSZ(100) and SrTiO₃(100) substrates synthesized by radio frequency(RF) flash plasma evaporation. We have analyzed the films by XRD, SEM, ICP, Tc and Jc. As a result, NBCO films deposited on YSZ(100) substrates show Tc [R=0]=91K and Jc [77K,0T]=7 × 10⁴A/cm². But Jc monotonously decreased as the magnetic field increased. We analyzed the compositions of the films by ICP to investigate the cause of lower Tc and no peak effect on Jc - H properties. Tc decreased as the compositions deviated from the stoichiometric NdBa₂Cu₃O_7-δ (Nd123).
