Abstract

Photopeak efficiencies for a 6.5 × 6.5 cm well type NaI(Tl) crystal with 0.8 cm well dia. and 3.2 cm well depth have been determined at photon energies 36, 52, 74 and 84 keV for cylindrical sources of dia. 0.5 cm and heights 0.5 cm and 3.0 cm placed in the well. By a process of simulation, the self-absorption effects have been take into account experimentally in typical absorbing media Al, Cu, Sn and Pb covering the periodic table. The data are presented in graphical form together with the data reported at higher energies for the same crystal by Tiwari and Kondaiah6).
