Abstract

A computer program has been used to calculate the photon-spectrum created by the annihilation-in-flight method of monochromatic positons. Multiple scattering, angular distribution and energy loss of positons in the annihilation target have been taken into account. Experimental results using different techniques are in good agreement with theoretical evaluations. In particular it is shown how the reaction 1428Si(γ, p0)1327Al can be used to measure the energy resolution (ΔEγEγ) of the “quasi-monochromatic” γ beam in the energy range 6MeV ⩽ Eγ ⩽ 40 MeV.
