Abstract

New values are given for relative γ-ray intensities in the decay of ^166mHo, that can be used for intensity calibration.

Absolute measurement of 166mHo radioactivity and development of sealed sources for standardization of γ-ray emitting nuclides

Holmium-166m has a long half life (1200 yr) and emits a large number of γ-rays between 80 and 1400 keV. These characteristics are very suitable for γ-ray calibration sources, therefore, the absolute activity of ^166mHo was measured and several sealed sources were produced to be used as reference sources for the secondary standardization systems for γ-ray emitting nuclides. In this project, seven metal sealed sources and ten point sources were produced and several of these sources were transferred to the secondary standard laboratories to complete the traceability scheme.

The nucleus ⁶⁶Ge has been studied through the reaction ⁵⁴Fe(¹⁴N, pnγ)⁶⁶Ge at E_14N = 42 MeV. Eleven new levels above 2 MeV excitation energy have been found and nuclear properties of these states have been assigned from investigations of prompt γ-rays using in-beam γ-spectroscopic techniques such as angular distributions, γγ-coincidences, yield function, lifetime measurements and linear polarization. As in the neighbouring even Ge and Zn isotopes, negative parity states 5⁻, 7⁻, (9⁻) have been observed. In the framework of the cluster-vibration coupling model these states can be explained in terms of mixing of seniority-two clusters [(p_$32$, p_$12$, f_$52$) ⊗ g_$92$]_j ≠ 0 coupled to zero, one and higher phonon excitations.
B(E2) values are reproduced in good agreement with experiment.
