Abstract

We have made measurements on 28 MeV electron scattering by gold and bismuth nucleus. Angular distributions of scattered electrons have allowed us to determine the root mean square radius of the charge distribution of the two nuclei with a precision of two percent. For the parameter γ0 entering into the expression for the radius R = γ0A13 of the homogeneous sphere adopted as charge distribution model, we found (in units of 10−13 cm) γ0 = 1.17±0.02 for gold, γ0 = 1.15±0.03 for bismuth. These results are in agreement with high-energy electron scattering results.
