Abstract

The shape of the alpha and beta spectra in the Li8(β,α)α and B8(β+,α)α decay is calculated directly from alpha-alpha scattering phase shifts, using methods developed in section 2 for this purpose, and the assumption that the decays involve only Be8∗ in a (2+) intermediate state. Recent experimental results are in good agreement with the calculated spectra.
