Heavy gases, iso-octane and C3F8 in charged particle detectors

Abstract

In low-pressure avalanche detectors, iso-octane gives the same performance at 3.0 Torr as isobutane at 5.0 Torr. In low-pressure ion chambers C3F8 behaves like CF4 at more than twice the pressure.
