Abstract

The performance of the newly commissioned heavy-ion synchrotron SIS 18 is investigated. The fragment separator provides access to all six phase-space coordinates of the slowly extracted ion beam. Transverse beam emittances were found to be ϵxx = 1.8π mm mrad and ϵyy = 4.0π mm mrad for 40Ar at 1 GeV/nucleon. A change in longitudinal momentum over extraction time is discussed. The stability of mean position and angle during resonance extraction is investigated.
