Abstract

This paper describes a FASTBUS-based TDC system for the readout of drift chambers which has been efficiently operated as an add-on to CAMAC. The implemented two-fold link between FASTBUS and CAMAC uses a dedicated dual-port memory for the high-speed transfer of the drift chamber data and a simple I/O register for parameter passing. Further developments foresee the use of a similar scheme for the readout of FASTBUS data into VME. Also described is a device which monitors the count rates on a large number of chamber wires independently of the data acquisition status.
