Abstract

The accuracy of the description of the Kπ = 12± bands in 225Ra as parity-doublet bands is tested by using the E1 transition rates connecting them. As expected, the δK = 0 E1 strength is considerably larger than that found in heavier actinides, where reflection-asymmetric shapes do not occur. The deduced ΔK = 1 E1 strength is smaller but is nevertheless surprisingly large for a reflection-asymmetric shape and remains to be explained.
