Abstract

We have studied the reaction: πp→ne+e at rest, i.e. inverse pion electroproduction at threshold, using the pion and a magnetic pair spectrometer at the Saclay Linear Accelerator. With 30 000 analyzed events, we proceed for the first time to the separation between the transverse and the longitudinal parts of the process, leading to model-independent measurements of the longitudinal multipole Lπ0+ for five values of the photon mass k2 and the k2 dependence of the transverse multipole Eπ0+ in the small transfer region.
