Abstract

The unitarity relations of Tandy et al. are used to reveal the significance of total cross sections calculated using several contemporary π-nucleus optical potentials. Order of magnitude discrepancies are revealed in the quasi elastic cross sections implicit in those models which ignore elastic unitarity and Pauli effects.
