Abstract

The low Q-value for electron capture makes 163Ho particularly attractive for observing effects of a non-zero neutrino mass. We report the spectrum of X-rays following M-capture and describe its relevance to neutrino mass experiments. The measured spectrum is consistent with M1 electron capture. The first observation of M1 lines sets a lower limit on the Q-value of 2.1 keV.
