Abstract

Using just the magnitude of the regeneration amplitude we show that both the regeneration phase, ϕr, and the sum of the ratios of the real to imaginary parts of the KON forward scattering amplitudes, γpn, can be determined for nuclei with zero or moderate neutron excess. We find: ϕr = (43.5 ± 2.5)o; γpn = −0.73 ± 0.1 + 1.7γpn 〈 2.7 GeV/c 〉 = −0.65 ± 0.07 + 1.6γpn 〈 4.5 GeV/c 〉, where γpn is corresponding quantity for KON scattering.

Applications to regeneration in hydrogen and the ϕ-meson are discussed.
