Abstract

The γ-decay following the 172yb(ρ, ρ′) reactions with Eρ = 45 MeV has been studied. Enhanced transitions with energies of Eγ ∼ 1 MeV were found in the γ-decay pattern. Around 50% of this radiation consists of known transitions originating from the 1–2 MeV region and feeding into the ground-state band at low spins. However, unresolved γ-ray lines constitute a considerable fraction of the bump. The γ-decay from the highest excitation energies (Ex ∼ 5–8 MeV) is found to be well described taking into account the transition probability imposed by the giant dipole resonance.
