Abstract

Angular distributions and an excitation function of the reaction 17O(16O, 16O)17O (0.871, 12+) have been measured. The observed fine structure of the angular distributions cannot be explained by the dominating transfer process alone. An explanation is given in terms of interference between one-neutron transfer and inelastic scattering.

Both processes are experimentally indistinguishable. Specific techniques have been developed to model this mechanism, such as the linear combination of nuclear orbitals (LCNO) [5,6] and a treatment within the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) formalism [7,8] that has also been extended to the analogous inelastic transfer process [9,10].
