Abstract

The (3He, n) reaction has been studied on 28Si, 29Si, 30Si, 31S, 35Cl and 37Cl near 14 MeV bombarding energy. Angular distributions have been measured for all ground state transitions and for the transition to the first excited state in 30S. The neutrons were detected with an arrangement of recoil proton telescopes, each consisting of two plastic scintillators. Pronounced L = 0 stripping patterns were observed for the ground state transitions, with cross sections of the order of 1mbsr at 0°. The results are compared with DWBA calculations based on various sets of shell-model wave functions, and with (3He, p) data for transitions to analogous final states.
