Abstract

A low-energy bump (Eγ ~0.4 MeV) has been observed in the first-generation γ-ray spectra from highly-excited even rare-earth nuclei populated in the (3He, α) reaction. The αγ angular correlations indicate dipole or unstretched quadrupole character. This bump cannot be explained within the frames of the Fermi-gas model.
