The reaction mechanism for proton scattering on 60, 64Ni and 66, 68Zn

Abstract

Elastic and inelastic scattering of protons from 60, 64Ni and 66, 68Zn exciting the first 2+ states has been investigated for the bombarding energy range 4–8 MeV. For the explanation of the measured excitation functions and angular distributions one needs the direct interaction, statistical compound nucleus formation and resonant excitation via isobaric analogue states. Theoretical off-resonance differential cross sections calculated by means of the optical model, the statistical model and DWBA, with average optical-model parameters, are in good agreement with the experimental results. The contribution of the statistical compound nucleus formation decreases very much above the (p, n) threshold. The p1 angular distributions measured on analogue resonances suggest interference effects. Off-resonance 64Ni(p, p1γ) angular correlations were also measured. They are well described by contributions from both the direct interaction and compound nucleus formation.
