Abstract

The mean lifetimes of several levels excited by inelastic α-scattering on 66Zn were measured using the attenuated Doppler-shift technique. The data were analyzed using the universal stopping cross sections of Lindhard, Scharff and Schiøtt. The excitation energies obtained and their lifetimes are: 1.040 MeV (2.1+1.0−0.7ps), 1.874 MeV (< 2ps), 2.452 MeV (< 1 ps), 2.828 MeV (0.26±0.05 ps), 3.080 MeV (0.19+0.80−0.15ps) and 4.395 MeV (98+50−30fs).
